Magnes Checkers Tournament

  Tournament Play

The Checkers tournament is a single game elimination tournament (if you lose, you are eliminated). All players are matched up in a bracket with the top returning players from the previous year eligible for a 1st round bye (if possible).

If the competing players can't decide on who will move first, the winner of a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors will make the final decision.  There are no forced jumps in this tournament (you don't have to jump if you don't want to), and there are no "flying kings".  However, only kings can jump backwards.

There are a few ways a game can end.  The most common way is for one player to capture all of his/her opponent's pawns.  A player can also win if Mr. Clark calls an end to the game when one player is clearly dominating his/her opponent.  In the case where a player is unable to make a move, Mr. Clark will declare a win for the player who IS able to move ONLY IF he/she has collected more pawns that his/her opponent.
